Animal shelter
Domivka Lviv

The Domivka animal shelter in the large city of Lviv takes care of animals in need wherever possible. It is a center for the reception and care of abandoned pets and wild animals from zoos that had to be closed. With the support of the Ukrainian army, it even carries out missions to evacuate animals from the frontline areas. The Ingeborg Brudermann Foundation has contributed to the renovation and expansion of the shelter's own veterinary clinic and financed a new transport vehicle. Close contact with the animal shelter management ensures that ongoing veterinary costs and salaries can be paid.

When Orest Zalypski and Nasar Dulisch founded the Reception and Care Centre for Native Wild Animals, they realized a dream. They wanted to look after native wild animals in need and offer those that could no longer be released into the wild a life in a species-appropriate environment. Animals from dubious circuses and closed zoos were soon added to the list. However, the situation changed dramatically as a result of the war, as additional facilities now had to be created to take in orphaned pets. Today, over 1700 animals live at the Domivka Center, including 123 cats and 98 dogs.

The Domvika animal shelter in Lviv also evacuates orphaned animals from the frontline areas in cooperation with the army and police. In July, the Domivka team brought 42 cats, 6 dogs, a calf and a stray rooster from the particularly hard-fought Kharkiv region to the shelter in Lviv.
