The animal shelter in the Ukrainian capital looks after over 1,000 dogs and hundreds of cats that have been left behind by refugees or have been orphaned for other reasons in the turmoil of war. The shelter is so overcrowded that most of the animals have to be fed and cared for in the city's neighborhoods, and now even outside the city. The Ingeborg Brudermann Foundation has contributed to the costs of setting up emergency accommodation for dogs at the shelter. In winter 2023, 2 ½ tons of food were financed and ongoing veterinary and energy costs were covered.
